University of Portsmouth
|
Background: The University of Portsmouth is in the center of
Portsmouth, on the south coast of England. The city, the birthplace of
Charles Dickens, is the home of the Royal Navy, and houses HMS Victory, so you
can see where Admiral Horatio Nelson famously asked Hardy to kiss him on his
deathbed. About 19,000 students – including around 5,000 international
students – call the university home.
History: The University of Portsmouth traces its history back
to 1870. It awarded its first degree in 1900, and has long boasted a high
level of graduate employment. More recently, it has grown rapidly in the
last ten years and is committed to promoting and maintaining excellence in
teach and research.
Accreditation: Degrees earned at the University of Portsmouth
are recognized by the UK Department for Education and Skills. The Quality
Assurance Agency (QAA) is an independent body that has responsibility for
assessing the quality of Higher Education in the UK and it performs regular
subject reviews to ensure that education at each recognized body is of an
acceptable standard.
Accommodation: Students will be housed in single rooms, and
will have a meal plan. Nineteen meals per week will be provided.
Grading scale:

A |

Credit hours: We recommend the following conversion: each
fifteen-unit module at Portsmouth is the equivalent of a four-credit US
course.
Note: all SIIP course conversions are advisory. Your Home School will make
its own decisions on how to convert grades and credit hours. If you
represent a US university, please feel free to contact
admin@siip.com to discuss how this recommendation was compiled.
