| About Your Program |
You will land in Nice, and SIIP will provide ground transfer to Monaco. You’ll
be housed just over the border in France, from where you will be able to walk
down the hill to Monaco. Don’t worry, there are no immigration controls to go
through every day!
SIIP will hold its orientation before classes start at our partner institution,
the International University of Monaco (IUM). The university attracts students
from all over the world to its undergraduate and graduate business programs,
which are almost all taught in English. The university offers language classes
in French, Italian and Mandarin.
On some weekends, you’ll have the opportunity to take SIIP Cultural Tours,
which from Monaco will include tours to Cannes and Paris and one of London,
Rome and Dublin. For the remaining weekends, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The
French and Italian rivieras will attract you in summer, and in winter you’ll be
a short drive from the ski resorts of the French Alps.

About Monaco
|
The Principality of Monaco has two miles
of coastline, but is always less than a mile wide. Its land borders are all
with France, though it is very close to the French border with Italy. The
principality is the second smallest independent state in the world after the
Vatican.
Monaco is a constitutional monarchy, and has been ruled by the House of
Grimaldi since 1297. In 2005, Prince Albert II assumed the role of sovereign,
following the death of his father, Prince Rainier.
One of Monaco’s principal sources of income is tourism. A highlight of the year
is the glamorous Formula One Grand Prix, but its casino gaming and pleasant
climate attract visitors year round. The principality has made successful
efforts to diversify the economy significantly beyond tourism, into services
and small, high-value-added, nonpolluting industries.
|
|
Weather
Monaco's average high temperature
varies from 55F in January to 80F in August and, on average, there are 31.7
inches of rain per year.
|
Religious Services
French and Italian-language Catholic services are held in the principality.
Protestant (Anglican) services are held in English. There is also a synagogue
where English is spoken.
|
Health and Safety
Walking around Monaco can be
physically challenging because of its steep roads. Monaco has such a low crime
rate that it was rated the safest international travel destination in a 2006
study by a US travel expert.
