London, England
About Your Program
Once you’ve arrived in England, you’ll be taken to a hotel in London where you’ll attend SIIP’s orientation. You’ll be acclimatized before you move into university accommodation.

When you get to our partner institution, the University of Westminster, you will have your own room in a residence hall, and your neighbors will be students from all over the UK and around the world.

Westminster is home to 23,000 students, so it’s no surprise that it boasts a full curriculum – including an optional internship – during the academic year. The university offers a number of targeted courses over the summer, so you can make progress towards your degree while you’re enjoying the experience of a lifetime.

On some weekends, you’ll have the opportunity to take SIIP Cultural Tours, which from London can include tours to Stonehenge, Paris, Rome and Dublin. For the remaining weekends, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Nearby attractions are tempting – both Oxford and Cambridge are easily reachable by train – but you’ll find it hard to leave London, because you’ll worry you might miss something.
About London
London is the capital city of England and is considered by many to be a city at the center of the world. You will be within an hour on the famous underground system from Big Ben, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, the London Eye, the National History Museum, and the London Science Museum, among other world famous attractions.

London has a population of almost eight million, and attracts diverse people from around the world. The city is bustling with nightlife and abounds with arts and culture, so it’s almost impossible to be bored. There are almost six thousand pubs, more than a hundred theaters and 34,000 shops in the city.

If you need a break from the hustle of city life, you’ll find an extraordinary number of large parks in London, where you can feed the ducks or even sunbathe in summer. And the city is within a hundred miles of Stratford-upon-Avon, Stonehenge, Oxford, Cambridge, and the Channel Tunnel.
Weather
The average high temperature varies from 43F in January to 72F in July. The average rainfall is 23 inches of rain per year. It occasionally snows, but snow rarely accumulates. For comparison, San Francisco’s average high varies form 53F to 73F, and its average rainfall is 20 inches.
Religious Services
London is extremely diverse, and so there is a large variety of religious services. You can easily use public transport to visit places of worship if you are: Christian (Protestant, Catholic or Mormon), Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist. The University of Westminster has Anglican, Methodist, Catholic and Muslim Chaplains.
Health and Safety
London has some of the best medical facilities in Britain. The risk of theft in London is quite high, so do not carry round large amounts of cash. However, the murder rate in London is very small compared with the murder rate in any large US city.
