Academic Policies
|
SIIP may release your application to its partner institutions overseas so that
the overseas institution can make the ultimate admission decision, therefore
ensuring its academic integrity.
Before you travel, you will be encouraged to choose your courses and obtain
preliminary approval for the transfer of these courses from overseas. Of
course, your home institution will expect you to pass the classes before
finalizing transfer credit! SIIP and the foreign partner institution each
reserve the right to make changes to the availability of courses overseas, so
in some cases you may not be able to enroll in the courses that you were hoping
to take before departure.
While you are overseas, you should obey the academic policies of the host
institution. As in North America, plagiarism (including improper citation of
sources), communicating in examinations and using improper test aids (which, at
the instructor or department’s discretion may include calculators or computers)
are just some of the behaviors that can cause you to be subject to a claim of
academic misconduct. Different universities have different procedures on how to
process academic misconduct charges, but it is your responsibility to tackle
any academic misconduct charge; SIIP will not represent you. If you are found
guilty of academic misconduct, the penalties can be severe. For example, you
could be expelled from the host institution, which would lead to your automatic
dismissal from the SIIP program. You might automatically receive a failing
grade for a class, which would appear on your transcript, and if you are
intending to apply to graduate school in the future, you are likely to have to
declare your previous academic misconduct overseas.
At the end of the program, the host institution will issue your academic
transcript only to SIIP, and not to you. You will be able to choose whether
SIIP releases your official transcript to your institution in North America or
to you. We will furnish you with an additional unofficial transcript at no
cost. If you have no outstanding balance to either SIIP or the host school,
your transcript will be released to you or to your home institution by SIIP
within ninety days of the published end date of the program. If you have an
outstanding balance, your transcript will not be released until you have paid
your outstanding balance(s) to SIIP and to the host institution. Outstanding
balances include, but are not limited to: Application Fees, Deposit Fees,
Balance, SIIP Insurance Fee, and Restitution Fees that are assessed in
accordance with SIIP’s Code of Respect.
